Transgender people at risk for HIV

Transgender women are 49 times more likely to be infected with HIV compared to adults in the general population; 36 times more likely to have HIV compared with males; and 78 times more likely to have HIV compared with females. Only 43 percent of countries address the needs of transgender people in their national AIDS strategies.

A platform for transgender people

Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN) provides a platform for transgender people to voice their views. It is a relatively new network, founded in 2009, which consists of 29 members in 22 countries. The mission of APTN is to enable transgender women in the Asia Pacific region to organize and advocate to improve their health, to protect their human rights, and to enhance their social well-being and the quality of their lives.
